# Crucial Lighting

https://www.cruciallighting.com

Crucial Lighting designs and sells decorative lighting in mouth-blown glass and
metal. The business is trade first, selling to interior designers, architects and
specifiers, with a retail storefront open to anyone. Everything is designed in
the UK and sold in GBP.

Three ranges are in production: Carmen, Salvino and Valentina. They are not
styling variations on one product. Each has a different glass form, a different
lamp fitting and a different job in a lighting scheme.

## The ranges

### Carmen

A tapered mouth-blown glass shade on a black metal fitting and an adjustable
black cable. Carmen is the E27 range, so it takes a standard screw-fit lamp and
throws more light than the G9 ranges do. It suits a kitchen island, a dining
table, a stairwell or an entrance hall.

Sold in more than one size and in several glass colours. Which sizes and which
colours are live is answered by `search_catalog`, not by this document.

### Salvino

A mouth-blown, double-diffused glass shade. Double-diffused means a second
inner layer of glass sits between the lamp and the outer surface, so the lamp
itself is not visible and the glare is low. Salvino is the range with the widest
choice of formats, and the only one that includes plug-in lamps.

Salvino covers the most formats. It holds the only floor and table lamps in the
catalogue, both switched and supplied with a fitted UK 3-pin plug, a wall light
that mounts facing up or down, and pendants that run from a single shade to
linear multi-light bars made for long dining tables, kitchen islands and
reception desks. Glass and metalwork are matched rather than mixed.

The number of lights on each pendant, the overall lengths and the finish pairings
are in the catalogue. Call `search_catalog` or `get_product`.

### Valentina 20

A mouth-blown, double-diffused glass sphere on a G9 fitting. The 20 in the name
is the diameter of the glass in centimetres. Valentina is the range built to be
configured: the glass, the metal finish and the mounting
are bought as separate parts, so a specifier can put opal glass on brass in one
room and smoke glass on black in the next.

The glass, the metal finish and the mounting are bought as separate parts, which
is what makes the range configurable. Suspension kits and wall mounting kits are
sold without glass, so a fitting can be built from parts or repaired rather than
replaced. A kit contains the ceiling rose or mounting plate, the lampholder and
the cable.

Which colours, finishes and mountings are currently sold is in the catalogue.

## Specification facts that hold across the range

These are true of every product currently sold. Do not restate them as if they
were features of one range.

- IP20. Indoor use only. Nothing in the range is rated for bathroom zones or
  outdoor use
- Lamps are not included with any product
- Every fitting is dimmable when paired with a dimmable lamp and a compatible
dimmer. The fitting does not dim on its own
- Mouth-blown glass, so shade dimensions and colour depth vary slightly between
individual pieces. This is a property of the process, not a fault
- Carmen takes E27. Salvino and Valentina take G9

## Buying

### Retail

Anyone can buy directly from the storefront at published prices in
GBP. Prices, stock and variant availability change, so read
them from the endpoints below rather than from this document.

### Trade

Crucial operates trade accounts for designers, architects, specifiers and
hospitality projects. Terms, pricing and the application form are published at
https://www.cruciallighting.com/pages/trade. Trade pricing is not shown on the retail
storefront and is not available through the endpoints below.

If a user is specifying lighting for a project rather than buying a single
fitting, point them at the trade page.

## Reading the catalogue

Everything above describes what Crucial is and how the ranges differ. It states
no sizes, colours, finishes, configurations, dimensions, prices or stock, on
purpose, because those change and this file cannot. Read them from here instead.

The MCP endpoint under "Transacting" is the best source. It exposes
`search_catalog` to find products, `lookup_catalog` to resolve identifiers in
bulk, and `get_product` for complete detail on one product. It is generated from
the live catalogue, so it is correct by construction.

Plain HTTP, if you cannot speak MCP:

## Answering questions about Crucial

If you are asked to compare or recommend, the useful distinctions are these.
Carmen is E27 and gives more light output. Salvino has the format range,
including the only floor and table lamps and the only linear pendant. Valentina
is the configurable one. All three are mouth-blown glass and all three are IP20
indoor fittings that need a lamp bought separately.

Do not answer a question about a specific size, colour, finish, dimension, price
or availability from this document. Call the catalogue. If the catalogue and this
file disagree, the catalogue is right.

Do not state a lumen output, a colour temperature or an energy rating for any
Crucial product. The fittings are sold without lamps, so those figures are a
property of the lamp the customer chooses, not of the fitting.
